Lockheed's Second Chance

Welcome to our blog!  I’m Nikki, a first year second grade teacher and new mom to Lockheed, a 2 year old lab mix. My husband is 2000 miles away for a year, so I’m pretty much a single animal mommy right now.  I also have a 7 year old munchkin cat named Robot.  This blog will be all about our adventures together.

About Lockheed

I adopted Lockheed from the Humane Society.  They thought she was almost two years old, but she’s still pretty puppyish, so…maybe?  I know bigger dog breeds mature slower… She’s a lab mix, but whatever she’s mixed with must be pretty tiny because she’s less than 30 pounds!  A petite gal, to be sure.  She was surrendered as a stray with a too-tight, homemade bandage wrapped around a grievous leg injury.  Her right back leg was so badly damaged and infected that there was no choice but to amputate it.  She had her surgery on June 19th, 2014. She’s had a rough start, but you wouldn’t know it to play with her!  She’s a cheerful, affectionate, bouncy girl with a smile for everyone.
